Emboldened by local authorities’ unwillingness to grant a church building permit to Protestant Bataks Christian Church (Huria Kristen Batak Protestan, or HKBP), some 100 Muslim extremists accompanied by government officials on April 29 tried to destroy the building under construction in Jati Makmur village, North Binjai, 22 kilometers (14 miles) from the provincial capital of Medan. The Rev. Monang Silaban, HKBP pastor, said about 100 members of the Islamic extremist Front Pembela Islam (Islamic Defender Front, or FPI), some armed with “sharp weapons,” arrived at 4:30 p.m. accompanied by Binjai municipal officials, who brought a bulldozer. Church members quickly gathered to defend the building, with women anxiously crying, “Please God protect us.”

This movie is officially banned in Indonesia by the government on April 01, 2008.

This is the most talked-about movie these days. Some of my friends (mostly the Muslim ones) talk about it. Many variety shows on TV talk about it. Lotsa (Indonesian) bloggers blog about it. Its soundtrack is currently the most popular song in the country. I am not tempted to watch it, but I am curious what the story about.

The story was based on the best-selling novel with the same title, written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. I saw the novel when I went to a bookstore last Sunday. Thank God that I was too broke to buy it, because yesterday I found the free copy of its e-book on-line :)

So I started reading it. I found no peace of mind. I can't accept polygamy concept and religion conversion. I am still on the page 34 now.

Anyway.

It's mating season the house again! My favorite furry kid, C'est Moi, doesn't want to stay close to me anymore. He was like that too 6 months ago, when both of my female dogs were looping. He prefers to stay close to Chantique. Sniffing her back, riding her :) They both are Chihuahuas. And that drives Cupcake, the female Pug, jealous!

Well, C'est Moi also sniffs her, too -- but not as much as he sniffs Chantique. I feel sorry for Cupcake, but I understand  C'est Moi as I also practice "preference". Cupcake can't convert herself to be a Chihuahua to get C'est Moi's attention, of course. And that's one of the best things of being an animal. You know who you are, and you will never change yourself for anything in whatever sake, in whatever's, whoever's name.

The first time both of the dogs had their first loop (period) 6 months ago, C'est Moi practiced "polygamy". It's excusable since he's just a dog that doesn't know what commitment is. But now he's much better than those human men and husbands who "own" more than a wife for some (ridiculous) religious reason.

I study and relate both Ayat-Ayat Cinta and the triangle love of my dogs. C'est Moi the Chihuahua is a better man than Fahri bin Abdullah Shiddiq. He doesn't practice polygamy anymore. Chantique is luckier than Aisha Greimas. She has a "husband" who doesn't divide his heart into two. Cupcake is smarter than Maria Girgis. She needs not to convert herself for C'est Moi.

But hey, it's just a fictional story. And remember that there's a saying, "Love is being stupid together."?

I don't mean to be offensive, but it hurts me when a woman is betrayed in a committed relationship, and a soul gets lost because of "love". The price that Jesus paid on The Cross is way too expensive and too precious to get abandoned.

My favorite part of Ayat-Ayat Cinta is the soundtrack. Really. It's a great song!
