The right picture was taken on my cousin's 17th birthday party. I was singing "Happy Birthday to You". I have loved singing since I was a child. The party was held in a Chinese restaurant in my hometown of Semarang.
As you can see I wear the same dress here. I proudly say that it's made by Mom. All of my dresses were made by her, and I still even wear some of them today since she loved sewing and when she passed away, she already made some new night dresses for me which are my sleeping uniforms until now :D
I was pooping and singing "Glory Hallelujah" in this picture. I know it might be rude to praise God that way, but I was only a child and God is love, so I'm sure He forgave me. This picture was taken at the house of my Dad's sister and brother-in-law which I called as Mama and Papa. [read more here]
I was sent to Sunday School every week since I was 3 year old and I was one of those kids who couldn't wait to be asked to sing in front of the class room. Hehe.
If I were asked today, which is the happiest part of my life, the answer would be my childhood.
I miss myself. I miss me. I miss being a child again..... I want to be that happy again.
Found this picture on my hard disk. It's taken when I was 3, I guess. Sorry for the quality. I have no scanner, just shot it with my camera :)
This picture was taken at a chapel of my school in my hometown of Semarang. It's like 5 minutes from my place. It's a very huge Catholic estate. I schooled there until I was 9, before my parents and I moved to Jakarta.
I'm not a Catholic, but I was always sent to Catholic schools since I was in the kindergarten as my parents wanted me to get disciplined better . Catholic schools were the best during that time. The learning materials were harder than public or Christian schools, but these days most people send their kids to international schools. The fee is paid in US$. Only "the haves" can afford it. Catholic schools were also expensive at that time, and like many other parents, mine wanted the best for me.
What did you do for fun when you were a kid? How is it different from what you see kids doing now?

Gadgets weren't my toys. I didn't communicate my friends with a cellphone. My parents only allowed me to play outside with my friends once a week, on Saturday. As an only child of over-protective parents, I mostly stayed at home. Studying and reading (story) books, that's mostly what I was doing for "fun"...
Sometimes I went out with my cousins to theme parks. Swimming, watching circus, magic shows. Sometimes Mom took me out to watch kids' movies. I didn't really like going out with my cousins, though - I'd rather go out with my friends :) And one of my friends collected Barbie dolls. I loved playing the dolls at her place! Sometimes I ran over to her place when my parents weren't at home, and got very scared if they reached home before I did. Hehe.
But anyway, my childhood is better than my adulthood :)
1. As a child I loved to play dolls.
2. As a child I wanted to grow up to be a singer.
3. As a child my favorite thing to eat was ice cream.
4. As a child my favorite relative was my (female) cousin who's 10 years older than me.
Saturday 9: Family Ties
- Where and when were you born?
Semarang - September 11, 1969. - Do you have siblings? If yes, tell us more.
I'm an only child. - What are your parents’ names?
Kenneth and Martha. - Did you (or do you) know all four of your grandparents?
The only grandparent I never met was Dad's father because he passed away a year (if I'm not mistaken) before my parents got married. - Do have children? If yes, tell us about them. If no, do you want them?
My dogs are my children :) But yes, I want to have my own human (not adopted) child(ren) someday. - Do you still live in the general area that you grew up in?
Nope. - Do you have cousins? If yes, are you or have you been close?
I have loads of cousins! I am not close to all of them, just some. - How often does your family all get together?
Since Mom passed away, Dad and I don't attend the family gatherings anymore. We like it that way. - Is your significant other close to your family?
I'm single and have never been married.
- From your earliest memories, how many different career choices did you seriously consider?
I wanted to be an SAHM, a photographer, a webdesigner. - Is the career you actually wound up in among those early possibilities?
I don't work now. - What’s more important to you: being successful in your professional life or your personal life?
Personal life. - Take the quiz: What’s your priority?
The Priority TestWhat's Important to You... And What Isn't:
For you, primal needs like eating and sleeping are your top priorities.
You don't mind having things to get done... as long as they don't pile up on you.You attend to almost every priority in your life. You don't neglect much.
You want your health to be a high priority, but you don't often get around to taking care of it. - Are you more likely to let your personal life get in the way of your career, or to let your career get in the way of your personal life?
Get my personal life get in the way of my career. - If you were to make a list of things you will look forward to doing on Monday morning, would going to work be at the top of the list, the middle, the bottom, or not on the list at all?
Hard to answer this question since I don't work :)
